We’re always deeply honoured to be invited back to revisit and reimagine our earlier work — and this project was no exception. Nearly 15 years after completing the original home, we were engaged by its new custodians to sensitively retrofit a lift, future-proofing accessibility for all who live there.

The brief was clear: enhance functionality without compromising the spatial generosity and warmth of the original design.

A sculptural lift shaft now settles gently within the double-height foyer, clad in curved Porta timber panelling that introduces softness and cohesion. The mezzanine was extended to form a new bridge, with original details carefully repeated — celery top pine and inset glazing — ensuring a seamless dialogue between old and new.

Below, a built-in seat with concealed shoe storage and an inset mirror brings both practicality and light, subtly expanding the sense of space.

The result is a quiet yet sculptural intervention — one that honours the past, embraces the future, and has delighted its new owners.
